Rugrats, A Step at a Time: Kimi

So, I've been watching the Rugrats episode 'A Step at a Time' on Youtube and I've seen dozens of comments that pointed out that it wasn't shown how Kimi walked the first time. I've put up replies on how it wasn't shown because Kira couldn't show her point of view like the rest of the kids and their parents did. So, I decided to take it upon myself to show how it happened from the view of Kimi and Kira.

Kimi and Chuckie had just left from Tommy's a few hours ago and were at their home. They had all regaled how they all had taken their first steps, hoping they could use how they had walked to help Dil walk. Unfortunately, none of their plans were successful. But there was one plan they hadn't thought of…
Mostly because one plan hadn't been told.
"Kimi?" Chuckie said, getting her attention as she sat on her bed, playing with her super-thing doll.
Kimi looked up at him.
"Yeah, Chuckie?" she said.
"We never founded out how you walked the firstest time" he said, making her realize that.
Kimi blinked a few times in confusion.
"So?" she asked.
"Well" Chuckie said, hopping off of his own bed "maybe if you said it, we coulda helped Dil walk the way you did."
Kimi shrugged.
"I dunno Chuckie, I don't tink it would work…" she said, sounding as if she was hiding something.
"Why not?' Chuckie asked curiously.
Kimi closed her eyes.
"Well, if I can 'member right, I was with my mommy and my grandma, and we was in this big building full-a stores, and my mommy and my grandma was both talking funny…" Kimi started.

"So Stu actually thought Dil walked at how young he is?" Kira asked Chaz, as they prepared dinner.
"I know, silly right?" Chaz asked.
Kira smiled.
"I admit that it kind of is, but anything could happen" she told him.
Kira was always an optomist in any situation.
"Besides, any parent is excited when their child walks" she admitted.
Chaz looked up then.
"You know, Charlotte, Betty, and I all started talking about how our kids walked the first time, but there was one story missing" he mentioned.
Kira looked up.
"Which one?" she asked.
Chaz set down his knife that he was chopping potatoes into wedges with.
"Why, yours of course" he told her.
Kira blinked a few times in confusion.
"Huh?" she asked, unable to tell what he meant.
Chaz turned around to face her completely.
"How did Kimi walk the first time?" he asked her.
Kira set down her spatula, as she leaned backwards against the counter.
"Well, it was a month or so after I had divorced from Hiro, and I had moved back in with my parents while I was searching for a job" she began to regale, starting to remember.
"Even though I was getting alimony checks for child support from the divorce settlement, I didn't want to depend on those for the next 18 years" she admitted.
Chaz nodded, indicating her to go on.
"My mother and I had gone to the mall to get a few things for Kimi" she continued.
"I can remember that this was about the time KISS was doing their farewell tour in Japan, and a lot of tribute acts were playing around town…"

"There was lots a people dressed up like these weird looking clowns" Kimi said.
Chuckie paled a bit at that.
"Clowns?" he said in fear.
Kimi nodded.
"Yeah, 'cept, not like regah-lur clowns" she told him "They lookeded kinda like the ones back in Paris, called 'mines' or something…"
"But all their clothes-eez were diff-ernt. Like some haded booties that lookeded like Reptar and carried axes, and some lookeded like kitties and carried sticks, and some didn't even wear any shirts, unless they were girls…" Kimi explained.
She sighed.
"I gotted bored and was playing with my super-thing when I dropped-ed him" she said, picking up her Super-thing doll and dropped it on the floor.
"Then this one 'mine' guy wearing Reptar booties walkeded near him and super-thing gotted caught on the back of his booty, 'cause it was covered in sharp thingies." she went on "I really wanted him back, so I un-buckle-eed my stroller belt and I gotted out and, well, I just started walking."
She got off her bed.
"He didn't walk far though, he stopped-ed at this big place where there was peoples around him and his friends…"

"So, while my mom and I were looking through some clothes, I heard this noise that distracted me" Kira continued, flipping over the turkey burgers she was cooking.
"I looked down at Kimi's stroller and saw that she was gone!" she said in panic.
Chaz finished chopping potatoes and put them on a tray into the oven.
"So, what did you do?" Chaz asked.
"Well," Kira said "I got my mother to stop looking through the clothes and told her that Kimi was gone, so we started looking around the store."
"But when we got near the entrance, we heard from the stage area in the middle of the mall through the sound system that some baby had gotten on the stage and they were trying to figure out who's child it was."
"So my mother and I immediately went over to the stage area and saw her standing near the Gene Simmons look-alike."

"I gotted over to the Reptar-booty-guy who had super-thing, and he and his friends were playing music." Kimi told Chuckie "The kitty was sitting behind this big thingy made of circles, the Reptar-booty-guy had a axe with stringies on it, the guy with no shirt was singing into this weird thing a-top of a stick, and there was another guy holding something like a stringy-axe, but it wasn't shaped right…" Kimi said, curiously.
"I went-ed over to the Reptar-booty-guy and pulled super-thing off of him and sat back down."
Kimi picked up her Super-thing doll and sat down.
"Then the no-shirty guy saw me and they all stopped playing. The no-shrity guy asked if my pair-ants were around, but I didn't know what that mean-ded…" Kimi said.
Chuckie spoke up.
"Maybe they meant-ed like two ants or something" Chuckie said, holding up three fingers.
Kimi cocked an eye-brow.
"That's weird…"
Chuckie shrugged.
"Then, mommy came over and picked-ed me up, telling the 'mines' she was my mommy." Kimi said "Then, when we was gonna leave, some other guy came over to me and my mommy."
"It was that yummy-sushi man who wanted to let Angelica talk in that big church when that mean lady didn't want her to…"

"I went over and told them that I was her mother and I had been worried about her." Kira went on, taking the finished burgers out of the pan and onto a plate.
"I hugged her close and told her to never walk away from me like that again" she told Chaz.
She smiled.
"But then I realized what I said and told her how happy I was that she could walk."
Kira turned off the stove and set the plate down.
"Then, when the band continued playing, I realized that someone was behind me as we went back over to my mother and set Kimi back in her stroller, making sure that she was strapped in securely."
"Who was it?" Chaz asked, checking on the potato slices in the oven.
Kira smiled again.
"It was Mr. Yamaguchi" she answered.
Chaz turned his head away and looked at her.
"What was he doing there?" he asked "I mean, I know he lives in Tokyo, but what was he doing at a mall?"
Kira shrugged.
"Beats me" she told him "he must be a KISS fan or something."
"But he saw how great I had handled the situation, and seeing how great I was with Kimi, he assumed that I was great with children-"
"Which you are" Chaz interrupted.
Kira smiled at him, and then kissed him on the cheek.
"Thank you, koibito" she said.
She went back to her story.
""So, Mr. Yamaguchi told me that he needed someone like me to help with the employee day-care center at Euro-Reptar-Land. I said I'd be happy to take the job, but he wanted to interview me for a bit first, so we found an area away from the stage so we wouldn't have to shout, and sat down while my mother continued shopping with Kimi, telling me she'd keep a sharp eye on her then."
Kira went on with her story.
"And after an hour or so, as he asked me questions pertaining to situations that could happen, and asking me what I would do, after hearing all my answers, he told me I was the perfect person for the job, he gave me his number and told me to call him when I was ready to take up the job" Kira said "I went to my mother and told her that I had gotten the job, and a few weeks later, Kimi and I left and moved to Paris."
"After a few months of working there, though, one of the high-ranking employees saw how organized I was and told me they'd be willing to hire me as their secretary if I could be as organized for her as I was there."
Chaz smiled sympathetically.
"Lemme guess, Coco?"
Kira nodded.
"But I am happy I took that job" she told him "because if I hadn't I wouldn't have met you."
They both kissed.
"Now lets get the kids out here for dinner." she told him.


Later on, after dinner, Kimi and Chuckie were put in their PJs and were ready to be tucked into bed. Their parents tucked them in and shut off the lights.
Before they fell asleep though, Chuckie got Kimi's attention again.
"Hey, Kimi..." he said.
Kimi turned over.
"Yeah, Chuckie?" she asked sleepily.
"Do ya thinks we need to get Dil to walk the way you did the first-est time?" he asked her.
Kimi thought about it, but then shook her head. Realizing that Chuckie couldn't see her in the dark, she talked instead.
"No, Dilly should just walk when he's ready to walk like the rest-est of us did. 'Sides, it would be mean to take his favoritest toy from him."
Kimi held her Super-thing closer and turned over.
"Nighty-night, Chuckie" she told him.
Chuckie yawned.
"Night, Kimi" he said.
No less than five minutes later, the two step-siblings drifted off to sleep.
