Usually when Christmas has passed, I get really bummed out, but this year I just feel confused. Why? Well...
Usually from the day after Thanksgiving (sometimes even the day after Halloween!) I surround myself with Christmas specials, Christmas carols, candy canes, cookies, and basically ANYTHING Christmas related. But I just couldn't do that this year, as I had to focus on not bombing my finals because if I did I would owe my school a LOT of money.
All I owe with my grants and FAFSA is 1 buck per unit and good grades, basically a C or better. But if I get bad grades, I owe all the money back I get from my grant & FAFSA, and I don't exactly have around $1,600.00 lying around.
I also thought that when the semester ended I could then condense all my Christmas spirit into one week. Long story short, it wasn't possible...
Anyway, when I got home on the last day of the semester I then paid my WoW subscription and I've been playing any chance I could get to get my moneys worth. Around Christmas Eve I stopped playing to at least focus on the holiday, where I watched some specials, opened a few cards, and ate the Mexican style dinner my family made. I got $50 from my aunt T and uncle Matt, and 2 I.O.Us from my grandma as her social security check didn't come on the 18th like she expect, but it is coming on the 4th of January so she'll get my the gift cards then.
Christmas day though wasn't exactly a let down, but it was different then usual. Instead of going to an aunt or uncles place, we went to my step-sister and her husbands place (finally, one of them is actually married to their baby-daddy...) We opened gifts there, which were really just a bunch of toys for the nieces, and some stocking stuffers for the older ones.
I got some shaving cream, axe body spray, a go-pak of Golden Vanilla Oreos (thank god my dad always remembers that I don't like chocolate), 2 gift cards, and SO MUCH mini-candy canes, which I have gotten sick of! My grandfather buys me a lot of candy canes around christmas, but he always gets cheap dollar store ones that taste more like plastic then peppermint. Oh, as for the gift cards, one was $100 for Amazon which I redeemed, but haven't used yet, and the other was $15 for Burger King. The card said $15-100, and I told my dad "If this is seriously 100 bucks, I'm gonna get FAT!" But he told me it was just 15.
After presents, more and more family showed up, and we had some fun. I chatted and drank soda with my cousin on any subject we could think of, we jumped on the trampoline with my nieces and a few of my younger cousins, and then the entire family gorged ourselves on breakfast. On my dad's side of the family, breakfast is a HUGE deal on Christmas! There's biscuits with my great-grandma's home-made gravy, my aunt Kelly's fried eggs, my grandpa Bill's Linguiça (Portuguese spicy sausage) and mountains of bacon, other types of sausage, and hash browns. I stuffed myself to my limit and then passed out. My dad then dropped my off at home, where I passed out again. The problem is, though, I didn't sleep as long as I usually do after eating large meals.
I have a shunt, which is a tube in my neck that drains all the fluid out of my brain to keep it circulating thru my body. One of the hindrances, aside from being unable to play football, wrestling, or any physical contact sport is that one a month I get really drowsy and need to sleep. And out of any day of the year my shunt 'decided' to make that day of the month CHRISTMAS DAY! In a way, though, that made it better, so this holiday passing didn't depress me like it usually does.
But maybe that's my solution; just don't make Christmas a huge deal like I always do, that way I won't get depressed when it passes. Anyway, now I'm off to buy the new expansion pack for WoW, which will also give me 7 more days of play, thus filling up my entire break before the next semester. Azeroth HERE I COME!
